[Also in Group VIII] A machine for simultaneously scoring the upper and lower sides of corrugated cardboard 1 comprising revolving knives or scoring discs 7 co-operating with counter rollers 8 has each individual knife or disc and each counter roller mounted on a separate shaft and each knife or disc, together with its shaft, individually adjustable in height. Each scoring unit, as shown in Fig. 3, consists of a knife 7 and counter-roller 8 mounted in separate brackets 9, 10 which are vertically adjustable by means of set-screws 17, 18 acting on supporting rods 11, 12. Feed rollers 5, 6 are arranged to drive the knife and counter-roller through friction wheels 20, 21, 23; the wheels 21, 23 are adjustaby mounted and the knife 7 arranged for rotation at twice the speed of the feed rollers. Alternatively, a belt or gear drive may be employed. Figs. 7 and 8 show three scoring units in which each counter-roller 8 is free to rotate and each knife 7 is driven through gears 32, 33 by an appropriate drive-shaft 34, 35. Feed rollers 36, 37 are mounted on individual shafts 38, 39 and driven by the shafts 34, 35 through gears 33, 40 and 42, 41 by the shafts 34, 35; in this arrangement the feed rollers 5, 6 may be omitted. |
