The device has a plano-convex wing section that replaces existing sails in a vehicle. The wing section is constituted of a lattice framework covered by a sail, to reduce sail area until hauled down. The wing section has a leading edge constituted of a streamlined mast provided with two grooves for hoisting ends of the sail. Telescopic booms are fixed on a mast that is arranged behind the leading edge. Two support masts are arranged between the leading edge and the boom carrying mast. The wing section permits transformation of lower surface into upper surface and vice versa, during tacking.
