PURPOSE: A pyridone complex compound and dye containing the same are provided to ensure high molar extinction coefficient. CONSTITUTION: A compound is denoted by formula 0. In formula 0, R^1 is monovalent saturated hydrocarbon group of 1-8 carbon atoms; R^2 is hydrogen atom, -CN, or -CONH_2 group; R^3 is alkyl group of 1-4 carbon atoms; and R^8 and R^9 are independently hydrogen atom, monovalent aliphatic hydrocarbon group of 1-8 carbon atoms, aralyl group of 7-12 carbon atoms, or monovalent aromatic hydrocarbon group of 6-10 carbon atoms.
