PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and stably obtain an observation image with high image quality while suppressing deterioration of a sample by increasing repetition frequency of ultrashort pulse light. SOLUTION: A pulse division device 12 divides ultrashort pulse light emitted from a pulse laser 11 and polarized in the predetermined direction. The pulse division device 12 includes a parallel flat plate of a uniaxial crystal or biaxial crystal and includes pulse division elements 51-1 through 51-n arranged so that at least one optical axis is parallel to an incidence plane which the ultrashort pulse light enters and the incidence plane is perpendicular to the optical axis of the pulse division device 12 (optical system).
