PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position detector capable of constituting a position detection duplexed system of one object to be detected, and being miniaturized. SOLUTION: The position detector 1 includes a magnet 20 which moves along first to third movement lines y<SB>1</SB>, y<SB>2</SB>, x according to the operation of a shift lever 3, a first MR circuit 11 separated by d<SB>1</SB>with respect to the first movement line y<SB>1</SB>, a second MR circuit 12 arranged at an intermediate position between the first and second movement lines y<SB>1</SB>, y<SB>2</SB>, a third MR circuit 13 separated by d<SB>1</SB>at the opposite side to the first movement line y<SB>1</SB>with respect to the second movement line y<SB>2</SB>, and a position determination part 40. The position determination part 40 determines the position of the magnet 20 on the first movement line y<SB>1</SB>, on the basis of outputs of the first and second MR circuits 11, 12, and determines the position of the magnet 20 on the second movement line y<SB>2</SB>, on the basis of outputs of the second and third MR circuits 12, 13.
