PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for detecting an impulse signal and an impulse signal sequence to achieve wireless real-time location recognition system application in a multi-path fading environment. SOLUTION: A impulse signal detecting apparatus, which detects an impulse signal or an impulse signal sequence to achieve wireless real-time location recognition system application in a multi-path fading environment, includes a band-pass filter, an RF analog unit, and a signal processing base-band unit. The band-pass filter removes unnecessary frequency bands from extremely ultra short impulse signals received through a receiving antenna. The RF analog unit detects the envelope of the impulse signal sequence deprived of the unnecessary frequency bands and based on a multi-path, and outputs a digital signal regarding the envelope based on a leading edge of the envelope. The signal processing base-band unit performs low-speed 1-bit sampling, then outputs data, if frame synchronization has been found or a ranging command has been detected, performs high-speed 1-bit sampling and then calculates and outputs the propagation time of the impulse signals.
