PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metallic material whose surface is treated for electrodeposition coating, which achieves excellent corrosion resistance, coating adhesion, and throwing power of electrodeposition coatings even for using metallic materials having special structures, such as bag structures, as materials to be treated. SOLUTION: The metallic material whose surface is treated for electrodeposition coating includes: the metallic material; and chemical coatings which contain tin, zirconium, and fluorine atoms formed on the surface of the metallic material and which have a graded structure which changes the ratios of tin and zirconium atoms contained in the coatings from the composition containing the higher ratio of tin atoms to the composition containing the higher ratio of zirconium atoms progressively from the surface opposite to the metallic material side to the surface at the metallic material side.
