PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an anti-weed mat capable of sufficiently exhibiting weed-preventing effects, and to provide a method for preventing weed growth by which the labor can be reduced by using the anti-weed mat. SOLUTION: The anti-weed mat 10 is provided with a hole 11 through which the stem of a seedling passes at the center part thereof, and cuts 12 radially extended from the hole 1 around the hole 11. A linear cut 14 penetrating the anti-weed mat 10 so as to be tilted to the thickness direction is formed so as to reach from the hole 11 to the peripheral end part 13. The anti-weed mat 10 has a structure obtained by agglomerating each of palm shell fibers 20 entangled in irregular shape to form spaces because the anti-weed mat is formed by compressing the assembly of the palm shell fibers 20.
