The invention relates to an automatic system for optimizing the energy consumption in ambient lighting. According to the invention, the system mainly consists of a light sensor (1) whose output value is applied to an analogous-digital converter (2) which transmits input data to a computer (3), said data being used in a dedicated computer program, the data furnished by the program being transmitted to a relay plate (4) by means of which there is controlled a power variator (5) controlling the electric power of a lamp (6) so that said power will be reduced proportionally to the colateral artificial lighting and the natural lighting.
