<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device for superimposing an image of a virtual object on an image in a real space, and an image display method for displaying the virtual object approaching a user of the image display device in the real space so as not to be hidden by virtual object image display and notifying the user of the approaching object. <P>SOLUTION: An approaching object visibility determining part 117 compares a display area of an approaching object detected by an approaching object detecting part 111 with a display area of a virtual object image retrieved by a display target virtual object retrieving part 110, and determines the visibility of the approaching object depending on whether the area for displaying the approaching object is above a predetermined ratio or not.
