PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent malfunction in focus detection in such a case that a diaphragm opening diameter changes to cause a change in an exposure condition during processing to calculate a defocus amount based on detection of an image blur amount by a rolling shutter operation of a CMOS image sensor. SOLUTION: When determining that the diaphragm opening diameter changes (S200), calculation of the defocus amount in a focus detection area in which focus detection pixels are arranged in a vertical direction is inhibited, and the defocus amount is calculated only in a focus detection area in which focus detection pixels are arranged in a horizontal direction (S220). Since the diaphragm opening diameter differs each row, the diaphragm opening diameter at a midpoint of exposure time of the row where the focus detection pixels are arranged in the horizontal direction is detected to perform the processing to calculate the defocus amount based on the detection of the image blur amount according to the detected diaphragm opening diameter.
