PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply and efficiently purify iodine and/or an iodine compound from a liquid mixture containing iodine and/or an iodine compound obtained by an organic synthesis reaction and a heavy metal. SOLUTION: Iodine and/or an iodine compound is simply and efficiently purified by a step (a) of bringing a liquid mixture containing iodine and/or an iodine compound obtained by an organic synthesis reaction and a heavy metal into contact with an amino acid to form a heavy metal chelate complex and a step (b) of separating the heavy metal chelate complex solidified in the step (a) from a liquid layer.
