PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wheelchair having an elevating mechanism to lift a wheel off a contact surface on a frame, by which when a wheel is placed in a special separating position in order to form the clearance necessary for getting on and off a seat section, the wheel is lifted off the contact surface and the wheel is freely rotatable, to easily rotate the wheels by hand, and to easily perform positioning, and to enhance the convenience for use. SOLUTION: In the wheelchair, the seat 2 is disposed on the frame 1, and circular wheels 5 disposed on each of the left and right side sections of the frame. The wheel chair includes a wheel separation mechanism 7 for separating a special fan-shaped section 5a of the wheel, which includes an outer circumferential part of the wheel, from the remaining section 5b excluding the special section, in the special separating position F in order to form the clearance K required for a person to get on and off the seat, and the elevating mechanism 9 to lift a wheel off a contact surface M on a frame.
