PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a speaker capable of suppressing occurrence of an unusual sound caused by deflection of a diaphragm and preventing possible damage of a damper to which excessive current is applied. SOLUTION: Reinforcement ribs, e.g. reinforcement ribs 8-11, extended along the width direction of the diaphragm 2 at a predetermined distance from a voice coil 3 are formed on the rectangular diaphragm 2 of the speaker 1. The thickness of each of the reinforcement ribs is set so that one side surface thereof faces a magnetic circuit 6. For instance, one side surface of the reinforcement rib 8 faces one side surface of a yoke 12, and one side surface of the reinforcement rib 9 faces one side surface of a yoke 14. Furthermore, a distance d between the reinforcement rib and the magnetic circuit 6 when no current is applied is set to be smaller than an allowable amount of elastic displacement of the damper 4 along the longitudinal direction of the diaphragm 2.
