摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an olefin polymerization catalyst capable of preparing an olefin polymer excellent in moldability, and a method for preparing the olefin polymer using the olefin polymerization catalyst. SOLUTION: The olefin polymerization catalyst is formed by contacting a zinc-containing compound (component A) with a specific transition metal compound (component (B)), provided that the zinc-containing compound (component A) is formed by contacting a zinc compound (component (a)) represented by formula [1]: ZnL<SP>1</SP><SB>2</SB>[wherein L<SP>1</SP>is hydrogen, halogen or optionally substituted hydrocarbon group], 1,1-bis(trifluoromethyl)-2,2,2-trifluoroethanol (component (b)) and a compound (component (c)) represented by formula [2]: R<SP>1</SP><SB>t-2</SB>TH<SB>2</SB>[wherein R<SP>1</SP>is unsubstituted hydrocarbon group or halogenated hydrocarbon group; T is an atom belonging to group 15 or 16 of the periodic table; and t is a number representing the valence of T].
