A bariatric bed (100) with a width extension. The bariatric bed (100) includes an extension side rail (1) and a lateral width tube (2). The extension side rail (1) is connected to a bed edge rail (10) through the lateral width tube (2). The distal end of the lateral width tube (2) is connected to the extension side rail (1). The proximal end of the lateral width tube (2) is slidably connected to a bed lateral tube (20) of the bariatric bed (100). In response to being extended, the lateral width tube (2) can be releasably locked into position relative to the bed lateral tube (20) by using a locking device (30). The width of the bariatric bed (100) can be adjusted as needed to suit an individual.
