PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure the stability of the rolling in the box groove-box groove which is executed before the rolling in the box groove-oval groove. SOLUTION: In the method for rolling a round billet by using a continuous rolling mill having a stand arranged in a box groove-oval groove-round groove series, before executing the rolling in the oval groove after executing the rolling in the box groove, the rolling to be executed in the box groove after executing the rolling in the first stage box groove is executed while satisfying the conditions (1), (2) and (3). (1) Width/height ratio (B1/H1) in the box groove<-1.149×width/height ratio (B2/H2) in the first stage box groove+2.996 (2) Draft in box groove<0.259×width/height ratio (B2/H2) in the first stage box groove+0.128 (3) Incoming steel width ratio (H2/B1)>0.82. Since the stability when executing the rolling in the box groove after the rolling in the first stage box groove can be secured, the stability of the successive rolling in the oval groove can also be secured.
