PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus including a vibration exciter serving also as a device for removing an accumulated dust group. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus of an electrophotographic system includes: a belt-like image carrier 31 provided with a toner image; a transfer roller 36 to be in contact with the image carrier; and the vibration exciter provided so as to be in contact with the surface of the image carrier different from the surface provided with the toner image and closely attached to a nip part Nip formed by the image carrier and the transfer roller to transfer the toner image to recording paper carried to the nip part. The vibration exciter is capable of generating: a first vibration mode where an excitation direction is roughly vertical to the moving direction of the image carrier; and a second vibration mode different from the first vibration mode.
