PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device suppressing a temperature abnormality that chiefly occurs in an output buffer to a target value or lower, and also to provide a method for driving a display device. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device 1 supplies data signals from source drivers 6 through the respective output buffers to data signal lines of a liquid crystal panel 2. Each source driver 6 is provided with: a temperature detecting circuit 20, which detects temperature abnormality that the temperature of the chip in the source driver 6 has risen to a setting or higher; and a start pulse signal wiring line 7a, which informs a controller 7 of detection of temperature abnormality when the temperature detecting circuit 20 detects temperature abnormality. The controller 7 is provided with a temperature abnormality eliminating means, which controls each source driver 6 and each gate driver 4 to eliminate temperature abnormality when the controller is informed.
