摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control a fuel cut from not being executed, even if an accelerator pedal is returned to a state in which it is not operated, when the engine speed is lower than that which permits the fuel cut while the fuel cut is stopped, although the fuel cut is stopped once when operating the accelerator pedal only for a short time while executing a speed reduction fuel cut. SOLUTION: This internal combustion engine is mounted on a vehicle having an accelerator means, and is connected to an automatic transmission having a lockup mechanism. This fuel cut control method of the internal combustion engine is performed after stopping the fuel cut by operating the accelerator means when executing the fuel cut when performing lockup control in speed reduction, and detects a change in the suction air volume of the internal combustion engine, and reduces the engine speed for permitting the fuel cut by a predetermined engine speed after a predetermined time from when returning to the fuel cut when a change in the detected suction air volume is a change in the direction for increasing a quantity, and sets the predetermined time shorter as the change in the suction air volume becomes small.
