The device has a fastening strap designed at a gas bag. A fastening element (1) is designed to be connected with a retaining structure i.e. vehicle body, and exhibits a central region (10) and fastening wings (12), which project from the central region through openings of the fastening strap, where the fastening element is mounted at the fastening strap. The central region is connected by a through-hole of the fastening strap. The openings are designed as holes or elongate holes or slots. A fabric of the fastening strap is reinforced in an area around the openings by a silicon or adhesive.
