The heater (3) has a heating unit (5) including a radiation source (9) i.e. laser diode, for emitting electromagnetic radiation with wave length, and another radiation source (11) partially covering a boundary wall (7). The electromagnetic radiation is absorbed in an upper surface region of the latter radiation source, where the upper surface region is smaller than another upper surface region. Another electromagnetic radiation is emitted with another wave length in a living room (1) using the latter radiation source in the latter upper surface region. The radiation source is selected from laser such as gas laser, dye laser, solid laser, color center laser, semiconductor laser, laser diode and/or free-electrons-laser. An independent claim is also included for a method for heating a room using a heater.
