The device has temperature measuring devices (10, 11) i.e. temperature sensors, arranged at determined distances (a, b) to an ideal position (W) of a heat source. An evaluating unit determines a position (V) of the heat source with respect to the ideal position based on the temperature measured by the measuring devices. A reference value of temperature quotients of the ideal position is compared with an actual value for determining displacement of the position of the heat source with respect to the ideal position in a direction of a connection line between the measuring devices. An independent claim is also included for a method for determining a position of a heat source.
