IMAGE READING APPARATUS, METHOD OF CONTROLLING THE SAME, AND PROGRAM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus having a simple configuration that facilitates detecting dust of a color similar to that of an original document guiding plate when the dust adheres to an original document pedestal.

SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus includes: a reading means for reading the image of an original document which is obtained by exposing the original document by an exposure unit; a reading control means for causing the reading means to execute first reading processing to read optical information by exposing the exposure unit with a first optical amount, and a second reading processing to read the optical information by exposing the exposure unit at a second optical amount smaller than the first optical amount while an original document does not exist at a reading position by the reading means; and a detector for detecting an adhering material on the reading position in accordance with the difference between the optical information read by the first reading processing and the optical information read by the second reading processing.
