PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a standby time required from the selection of video content by a user to the actual playback of the video content, compared to a conventional system, in playing back the video content requested to distribute from a content playback terminal. SOLUTION: The system in which the content distribution apparatus distributes video content by on-demand method to the content playback terminals via a network has a structure in which, prior to playback of video content from a distribution menu by a user, the content playback terminal receives video content added with cache control information from the content distribution apparatus, writes the video content into an internal temporary memory device, plays back the video content when the video content selected by the user is stored in the temporary memory device, and requests distribution of the selected video content to the content distribution apparatus when the selected video content is not stored in the temporary memory device.
