PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine whether there is data of a subtitle or not in a broadcast truly. SOLUTION: A digital television which receives transport streams as broadcast data, separates and processes images, sounds, and various data. The digital television acquires a subtitle packet for every program based on the broadcast data, determines the existence of subtitle data (a subtitle data existence determination module) in steps 11-14, memorizes the determination result of the existence of the subtitle data for every program (determination result memory module) in steps 15-17, determines whether there is subtitle data in a present program or not based on the memorized result when acquiring subtitle operation input from a user (subtitle operation input mean) in a step 22, and then controls the propriety of subtitle selection according to the existence of the subtitle data (subtitle selection control module) in steps 23-26.
