<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve sound absorbing performance of a sound absorbing structure in a simple configuration, by easily adjusting sound absorbing characteristics of the sound absorbing structure. <P>SOLUTION: A plurality of sound absorbing materials 10 are arranged at intervals on a fixing face M, and sound absorbing plates 20 with holes, each composed of a plate member including a number of through holes are arranged between the sound absorbing materials 10. The sound absorbing materials 10 and the sound absorbing plates 20 with holes are alternately lined and fixed along the fixing face M, and the sound absorbing structure 1 is installed on the fixing face M. An air layer K is formed between the sound absorbing plate 20 with holes, and the fixing face M, by dividing the sound absorbing materials 10 by the sound absorbing plate 20 with holes. Sound of a predetermined frequency band is absorbed by the sound absorbing plate 20 with holes, which includes the air layer, while absorbing sound at a front face and a side face of the sound absorbing material 10, and a state etc. of the through holes and the air layer K in the sound absorbing plate 20 with holes is changed.
