PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a timer recording system that achieves user-friendly operation, reduces power consumption, and reduces manufacturing cost. SOLUTION: The timer recording system includes a TV receiver and an HDR interconnected via an HDML cable. The TV receiver compares acquired EPG information with previous EPG information. If they do not match each other, the TV receiver transmits a program information update notification command based on a HDMI-CEC standard to the HDR. In standby mode, the HDR switches an operation mode from the standby mode to normal mode (S12) on receipt of the program information update notification command from the TV receiver (S11). Then, the HDR acquires EPG information (S13), and determines whether the broadcast start time of a TV program to be timer recorded has been changed or not (S14).
