Disclosed is a single stranded oligonucleotide which does not have a sequence containing parts made of four or more consecutive nucleotide residues which are the inverse complement of each other which allow for intramolecular base pairing and which is formed of nucleotide residues, wherein the bases of two or more internal nucleotide residues are labelled with a flurophore without an associated quencher, and wherein at least two of the nucleotide residues labelled with a flurophore are separated by at least two unlabelled residues.
