PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate capable of improving light extraction efficiency of a light emitting diode.

SOLUTION: A semiconductor light emitting element LC includes the substrate 110 provided with a plurality of projections 110b in a hexagonal pyramid shape on one surface, a base layer 130 provided in contact with the surface where the projections 110b are provided, an n-type semiconductor layer 140 provided in contact with the base layer 130, a light emitting layer 150 provided in contact with the n-type semiconductor layer 140, and a p-type semiconductor layer 160 provided in contact with the light emitting layer 150. The projections 110b scatter light traveling in a lateral and an oblique direction in the semiconductor light emitting element LC to improve efficiency of light extraction from the semiconductor light emitting element LC.
