摘要 <p>Disclosed is an illumination device in which irregularity in brightness is suppressed at low cost. A backlight device (12) is provided with: a plurality of LEDs (17) which constitute light sources; a chassis (14) which has a base plate (14a) that presents a rectangular shape in planar view and that accommodates the plurality of LEDs (17); and an LED drive control section (24) for controlling drive of the plurality of LEDs (17). The plurality of LEDs (17) are arranged in a matrix in a form in which a row direction (X-axis direction) and a column direction (Y-axis direction) are formed along the base plate (14a). An LED group (25) comprising the plurality of LEDs (17) arranged along the row direction has in the column direction: a central LED group (28) arranged in the centre of the base plate (14a); and an end LED group (29) arranged further towards the ends than the central group (28). The LED drive control section (24) is capable of adjusting the light from the central LED group (28) and/or the end LED group (29) in such a way that the end LED group (29) has a relatively high brightness and the central LED group (28) has a relatively low brightness.</p>
