<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle article carrier having cross bars stowable in supports rails. <P>SOLUTION: A vehicle article carrier system includes a pair of support rails and at least one cross bar. The cross bar includes an end support at each opposing end thereof. Each of the support rails includes an elongated recess extending parallel to a longitudinal axis thereof, wherein the elongated recess may be shaped generally in accordance with the cross bar, for receiving the cross bar when the cross bar is placed in a stowed orientation. Each of the support rails further includes at least one primary locking bar, and at least a pair of secondary locking bars, wherein the primary locking bar supports the cross bar when the cross bar is in an operative position extending perpendicularly between the support rails, and when the cross bar is placed in the stowed orientation in one of the support rails, the pair of secondary locking bars are disposed to be generally perpendicular to the primary locking bars and supports the cross bar in the elongated recess. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
