PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain long service lives for cleaning blades and to obtain an improvement in cleaning performance by preventing damage to cleaning members such as the cleaning blades and preventing a cleaning failure as much as possible. SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes an image forming part 2 for forming an image based on image information and a control part for controlling the image forming part. The image forming part 2 includes an image carrier (photoreceptor 11) for carrying an image developed by developing material 14a containing lubricant and transferring the image somewhere else and the cleaning members (cleaning blades 30, 31, 32, 33) for cleaning the developer remaining on the image carrier after transferring. The cleaning members have long service lives and the cleaning performance is improved since the cleaning member has a plurality of cleaning parts 30a, 31a, 32a, 33a which are exchanged for use when cleaning and the control part exchanges the cleaning parts to be used according to the image printing ratio for the image information.
