PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for detecting damage of an impeller, capable of accurately detecting the damage of the impeller of a rotating fluid machine with an impeller of a conductive material stored in a vessel composed of a magnetic material with a simple composition means. SOLUTION: The device for detecting damage of the impeller includes legs 21, 22 extended from the inner wall surface of the vessel 11 to the impeller 15 composed of a magnetic material, a yoke 30 installed on the outer wall surface of the vessel 11, a superconducting coil 35 arranged on the yoke 30 for generating a static magnetic field between the legs 21, 22 and the impeller 15, a pickup coil 40 for detecting a magnetic flux caused from an eddy current developed in the impeller 15, and a detector for detecting damage of the impeller 15 based on a cyclic change of the magnetic flux detected by the pickup coil 40 under the rotation condition of the impeller 15.
