PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an internal combustion that prevents deterioration of combustion state when switching the usage type of a cooling device for cooling air to be supplied to a cylinder. SOLUTION: When an engine load switches into heavy load from low load and increases flow rate of EGR gas to an EGR cooler, switching of a bypass valve of the EGR cooler is delayed until temperature of a cylinder wall is fully increased. When the engine load switches into the low load from the heavy load and decreases the flow rate of EGR gas to the EGR cooler, switching of the bypass valve of EGR cooler is delayed until temperature of the cylinder wall is fully decreased.
