A tubular-type stranding machine for forming multilayer cables in a single operation and having a tube 1 carrying the spools 2 for the outer layer of wire, has spools 6 that supply the core and the inner layer of wire mounted in a surrounding extension 4 of the tube 1, this extension 4 terminating adjacent the stranding point 3 of the outer layer of wire. As shown the spools 6 are mounted in a tubular body 7 rotatable relatively to the extension 4 by an electric motor 8, the spool 6 that supplies the core being mounted in a carrier 9 that does not rotate. In a modified construction the tubular body 7 is not present and, instead, all the spools 6 are mounted in a common non-rotatable carrier similar to the carrier 9. In this embodiment the inner layer of wires is unstranded. |
