In a vortex flow meter 100, a sensor plate 220 is positioned downstream from a shedding bar 118. The sensor plate has a first rim 222 supported on the diaphragm 204 in a flow meter sidewall, and an opposite second rim that is unsupported. Upstream and downstream rims 226, 228 of the sensor plate are supported. A rotatable strut 230 extends along a central region of the sensor plate and extends through the diaphragm to transfer vortex oscillations to a sensor at a sensing location. An electronic transmitter circuit receives a sensor output and outputs a standardized transmission signal.
