摘要 <p>The method involves detecting a state variable, which characterizes heating characteristic and/or cooling characteristic of storage (34) during heat inputting into the storage and/or heat output from the storage. An ammonia-loading condition of the storage is determined based on the state variable. The state variable is monitored during an operating phase in which ammonia is not taken from the storage while heating the storage during system start or cooling the storage after stopping the system. Heat capacity of the storage is determined based on the state variable. The ammonia-storage material of the storage is selected from a group of ammonia-complexion metallic salts e.g. alkali and alkaline earth metallic salts such as Magnesium chloride and ammonia composition, Calcium chloride and ammonia composition, and Strontium chloride and ammonia composition, and ammonia-absorbing solids such as carbon and zeolite. An independent claim is also included for a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst system comprising a SCR catalyst and an ammonia storage system.</p>
