PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the failure of a light receiving part for specifying a mounted position by detecting the light emission of a light emitting means of an ink tank with respect to the mounted positions of a plurality of ink tanks. SOLUTION: This recording device includes: a means for reciprocating the ink tanks within the recording device; a means for storing the amount of light received by a light receiving means; a means for determining a maximum value out of the stored amount of light received; a means for comparing the maximum value with a predetermined value provided beforehand; and a means for giving notice of the compared result.
