PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radial lead electronic component capable of reducing the height of an electronic component, wherein even if the leg of a lead wire is bent after mounting the wiring board of a capacitor, an external resin is neither broken nor detached. SOLUTION: The radial lead electronic component includes a tabular substrate 4 configuring the element body of an electronic component 2, electrode films 6 formed on the surface and back face of the substrate 4, two lead wires 8 each having a connection 8a electrically connected to the electrode film 6 and a lead leg 8f extending outward from the connection 8a, and the external resin 12 covering the surrounding area of the substrate 4 to which the connection 8a of the lead wire 8 is connected and part of the lead leg 8f, wherein the external resin 12 includes an inner layer 12a and an external layer 12b located outside of the inner layer 12a, and a distance difference between the external layer end 12bt where the external layer 12b contacts the lead leg 8f or the inner layer 12a along the longitudinal direction of the lead leg 8f and the inner layer end 12a1t where the inner layer 12a contacts the lead leg along the longitudinal direction of the lead leg 8f is 0.05-0.5 mm.
