发明名称 Magazine type crimping tool
摘要 925,118. Making electrical components; jointing by stamping. BUCHANAN ELECTRICAL PRODUCTS CORPORATION. Feb. 26, 1962 [March 20, 1961], No. 7434/62. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). In a crimping tool a die-holder has an axially disposed bore defining an operating location, a magazine adapted to receive a plurality of electrical connector supporting clip members, clip feeding means for unilaterally advancing lowermost clip member from said magazine toward said operating location thereby cyclically aligning electrical connectors in said operating location. The tool comprises a cylinder housing 10, a neck portion 12 and an electrical connector clip magazine and crimping mechanism housing assembly 14. Disposed within the housing assembly is a disc-shaped die holder 16 provided with a conically-shaped terminal wire entry and workpiece removal aperture 24, Fig. 6. The rear surface of the die-holder 16 is provided with a radial electrical connector transmission channel 28 that merges with a work-receiving bore 26. The die-holder is provided with a plurality of radially disposed spring-loaded crimping dies 30 which are actuated by an annular operating member 38 surrounding the die-holder and having a connector element transmission channel 39 communicating with the channel 28 in the die-holder irrespective of the rotative position of the operating member. An arm 40 on the operating member cooperates with the upper end of a piston-rod 44 connected to a spring-loaded piston 46 in the cylinder housing 10. The piston is controlled by a valve assembly 56 actuated by a control lever 64. An adjustable piston-rod stop assembly 70 controls the rotary displacement of the operating member 38 and consequently the depth of the crimp. A spring- loaded trigger lock member 80 is provided with a flanged ratchet surface 84 engageable by a tang 86 disposed on the end of the control lever 64. The extending arm 88 of the member 80 is engageable by a trigger release member 90 pivoted upon the end of the piston-rod 44. In operation, displacement of the control lever 64 advances the piston-rod and the tang 86 engages the ratchet surface on the trigger lock member 80. Prior to the piston-rod engaging the stop assembly 70 the trigger release member 90 engages the arm 88 of the member 80 and is rotated in a clockwise direction. The advanced contact surface 94 of the trigger release 90 engages the stop assembly and rotates the trigger release counter clockwise so that it engages and rotates the arm 88 of the trigger lock member 80, thus enabling arcuate displacement of the ratchet and full displacement of the control lever 64. The return of the piston-rod effects a return of the operating member 38 and disengagement of the trigger release member 90 from the trigger lock 80 which returns to its latching position. The housing 14 includes a magazine 98 and a feed assembly for the electrical connector clips 126 positioned in the magazine, Fig. 1. The upper and lower facing surfaces of the thermoplastic clip members 126 are provided with spaced indexing recesses 136. The clip members disposed in the magazine are pressed downwardly by a spring 142 and the lowermost clip member rests on a spring-loaded reciprocable slide member 148 having a longitudinal recess 150 underlying the recesses 136 in the supported clip member. The recess 150 accommodates a clip feed spring member 154 having indexing fingers 156 extending beyond the lead end of the slide 148 which is attached to a slidably mounted support member 158. The clip transmission channel 171 is partially defined by a spring steel latching member 172 having a plurality of latching fingers 174, Figs. 1 and 6, for engaging the recesses 136 in the clip member supported by the slide. Retractive displacement of the slide 148 is effected by a slide drive-pin 176 which extends through an arcuate slot in the die-holder housing wall 21. The drive-pin is connected to the operating member 38. During such retractive displacement the clip member is prevented from moving with the slide by the latching fingers 174 and thus the indexing finger 156 engages the next recess in the clip in readiness for the next feed operation of the slide. In operation, the magazine is filled with clip members and the tool is operated to effect a cyclic lineal advance of the slide supported clip member 126 into the clip transmission channel 171 and a concomitant displacement of the extending wire receptacle portion 132 of the lead electrical connector element 128 mounted therein through the transmission channels 28, 23 and 39 in the dieholder 16, die-holder housing 21 and operating member 38 respectively and into the bore 28 of the die-holder 16. An insulation-stripped end of a terminal wire lead is introduced into the conical entry aperture 24 of the die-holder and into the wire receptacle portion 132 of the connector element disposed in the bore and the tool operated to crimp the electrical connector on to the wire lead.
