PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk device with which the position control of an optical pickup is accurately performed, and moreover, of which the motion has high-quality, without the use of a detection means to detect the initial position of the optical pickup. SOLUTION: In the optical disk device, a drive pulse signal with which the output torque of a drive motor 52 becomes smaller than the moment due to a drive force transmission section 72 is sent to a drive motor 51, when the initial position of the optical pickup 3 is to be detected.
