PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coated die which has excellent lubricant adhesiveness and durability even in the environments of forging, die casting or the like which have been made severe, and to provide a method for producing the coated die. SOLUTION: The coated die is obtained by coating the surface of a die base material with a film by a sputtering process. The film is made of a hard film composed of one or more selected from nitrides, carbides and carbonitrides, and a lubricating film covered directly thereon, and made of one or more selected from nitrides, carbides and carbonitrides. The lubricating film has surface roughness of the arithmetic average roughness Ra:≥0.08μm, the maximum height Rz:≥0.84μm, and is composed of an acicular grains having grain boundaries in an almost vertical direction to the surface of the die base material. The above film can be achieved by controlling film deposition conditions upon its sputtering. For example, in the lubricating film, base material vias voltage upon coating is controlled to -0 to -60V. In the hard film, base material bias voltage is preferably controlled to >-60V and≤-160V.
