PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that the weight of a carriage increases in such a constitution that an ultraviolet lamp is mounted on the carriage, resulting in enlargement of a device for driving the carriage and leading to enlargement of the whole printer as well. SOLUTION: An optical path changing part is mounted on the carriage, which can irradiate ultraviolet rays on a recording medium by changing an optical path of the ultraviolet rays irradiated from outside. An ultraviolet light source is arranged outside the carriage. Hence the carriage is made compact and light-weight, so that the device for driving the carriage can be made compact. Further, the apparatus is configured to change the optical path of ultraviolet rays beforehand on the light source side correspondingly to an irradiation range of ultraviolet rays on the recording medium and to irradiate ultraviolet rays via the optical path changing part mounted on the carriage.
