Liquid crystal medium (Q) comprises one or more fluoro-substituted-benzene compound (I). Liquid crystal medium (Q) comprises one or more fluoro-substituted-benzene compound of formula (I). Independent claims are included for: (1) the new or known fluoro-substituted-benzene compound (I); and (2) the preparation of (Q) comprising mixing (I) with one or more benzene compound of formula (II) or (XXVII), dibenzene compound of formula (III)-(VIII), fluoro-substituted dibenzene compound of formula (X) or (XI), tri-benzene compound of formula (XII)-(XV), difluoro-substituted tetrabenzene compound of formula (XXI) or (XXII) and liquid crystalline compounds and/or additives. Provided that: both the ring D and E are not simultaneously cyclohexyl.
