PURPOSE: A drive unit of a liquid crystal display device and a driving method thereof are provided to reduce power consumption by adjusting a data voltage level during a blanking period. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal display panel includes a plurality of pixel regions and displays images. A data driver(4) drives data lines of a liquid crystal display panel. A gate driver(6) drives gate lines of the liquid crystal display panel. A timing controller(8) displays image data provided from the outside during an image display period among each frame period. The timing controller displays blanking image data converted to a plurality of gray scale levels on the liquid crystal display panel during a blanking period among each frame period.
