A fluid-flow control valve comprises a valve body 1 formed with a cylindrical through passage 2, the flow through which is controlled by a valve disc 3 preferably carrying a sealing ring 4. The valve disc is connected to a spindle 5, mounted for rotation in the body with its axis inclined to the axis of the disc such that rotation of the spindle by manual or suitable power means opens and closes the valve and causes the disc to wipe along the wall of the passageway. The disc is mounted on the spindle in a manner to allow relative rotation between the disc and spindle. The angle of inclination is preferably 45 degrees in which case the disc is horizontal in the fully-opened position to allow full flow through the passageway.
