Method and apparatus for controlling the playback speed of a coded digital video sequence

The method involves attributing a display duration (DR) to each decoded frame of a compressed digital video sequence. A previously acquired frame (CF) is played, and a display duration cumulative value (CDR) is decreased if the value is equal to/greater than a threshold value corresponding to a period of a frame synchronization signal (Vsync). A new decoded frame (NF) is acquired, and the display duration attributed to the new frame is added to the cumulative value until the cumulative value is equal to/greater than the threshold value, if the cumulative value is less than the threshold value. An independent claim is also included for a device for playing a compressed digital video sequence, comprising a video decoding module.
