The component (1) has a brush seal (6) with bristles (7) formed such that the bristles are movable by the effect of centrifugal force during operation of the component, where the component is rotated around an axis of rotation (2). The bristles are arranged diagonal to a radial direction (15) with respect to the axis of rotation when the centrifugal force is not produced. The bristles have bristle bodies (18) arranged between bristle tips (17) and bristle bases (19), where the bristle tips exhibit more weight than the bristle bodies. An independent claim is also included for a method for sealing a gap in a turbo machine.
