Disclosed is a display unit that shows travel-related information to a traveller in a public area. The unit has a communication interface that facilitates the receiving of travel-related information, and a machine-readable marking reader that scans markings on travel documents, eg tickets, and decodes the markings. The markings contain encoded travelled-related information pertaining to the traveller. A display control unit receives the decoded markings, and displays associated travel-related information to the traveller. The information may include arrival time, departure time, gate number, baggage claim and terminal maps. The unit may placed in train stations, airports, bus terminals or car rental offices. The unit may be part of bank of display units controlled by a master unit that accesses a data management unit to determine if new relevant information is available.
